Implementation Update

As a result of the Mayor's Historic Preservation Task Force final report issued earlier this year, the Administration and Councilmember Squilla have been working to implement recommendations to create incentives for preservation. Three zoning amendment ordinances have been introduced from recommendations of the Historic Preservation Task Force, Bills 190611190612, and 190613. These ordinances change requirements for locally historically certified properties by reducing parking requirements, allowing accessory dwelling units, and allowing more uses in “special purpose” historic buildings. These ordinances are scheduled to be heard at the Rules Committee of City Council on October 16th at 10am in room 400 of City Hall.

Additionally, Councilmember Blackwell is hosting a hearing about a possible Historic Preservation Fund during tomorrow's City Council Committee on Finance. This is not an actual bill to create the fund but an opportunity for the public to express their thoughts about a fund.  If you are interested in attending and testifying, the Hearing will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, 10/8 at 10am.  Alternately, anyone can email testimony to Roxanne.Horrell@Phila.gov  just put the bill number in the email subject line and state that you would like to go on record, responding to the bill.
